Day 18: Landers to Rawlins, WY If I had to summarize today in - TopicsExpress

Day 18: Landers to Rawlins, WY If I had to summarize today in one word it would have to be exhausting. I didnt sleep too well last night and we had an early wake up at 4:45am. The church in Landers made us a delicious breakfast and then we hit the road. My partner for today was Sydney and even though we only had to run 10 miles, shes an amazinggg runner with never ending endurance and trying to keep pace with her wore me out fast. It also didnt help that our entire route was rolling hills- I swear the uphills were somehow twice as frequent as the downs. I made it through the first 7 miles fairly well but I didnt hydrate or replace my carbs well today so the last 3 were torturous- constant cramps just overall muscle fatigue. I also had a terrible stomach ache which is one of the worst feelings to try to run through because the harder you run the more nauseous it gets. Syd was a great sport and kept encouraging me the whole way, but I was very very happy to see the van at the end. As soon as we made it to Rawlins I took a nap, and after dinner I took another and im STILL ready to hit the hay and its only 8:30 here. On the bright side, the scenery today was once again beautiful and we had several people stop to talk to us to share their own stories and cheer us on, which is always humbling and inspiring. We also just finished our second team pow wow where everyone shares their highs, lows, and their inspiration. The first time we did this was in Vegas and everyone was still a little reluctant to open up, so this time around was a lot more emotional and we all learned a lot more about what amazing people our teammates and their loved ones are. Today I dedicated my run to Nan and Boopa, my great grandparents. Both of them faced cancer during their lifetimes. They were two of the sweetest, most selfless and caring individuals Ive ever had the honor to know, and I know they would be proud of me if they were still here. Especially for Boopa who I had the chance to know for much longer, I love you and miss you and hope to someday be half as amazing of a person as you were. You may also notice my dedications are moving to different parts of my legs- you wouldnt believe how hard it is to get sharpie off when you dont get real showers! My legs are covered in old sharpie and my arms are pretty full now too, but its nice to think that the people Ive run for on previous days are still hanging with me as we move forward. Id like to sign off with a favorite saying of one of our run directors, Natalie, which is quickly growing on me: Peace, Love and Peeing outdoors
