Day 20 – Countdown to India! I spent my teenage years growing up and ‘Living in the 80’s!’ That’s right! Shoulder pads, hair gel, the Rubiks cube and fingerless gloves were just a few of the crazes going around. Don’t get the wrong idea, if you’re thinking it was all pastel suits, Don Johnson, Whitney Houston, Top Gun, The Dukes of Hazzard and Fluro Tube skirts, you’d only be half right … there was heaps of awesome music around in that decade. Punk, Post-Punk, New Wave, New Romantics, Rock, Pop, Rockabilly, Synth Pop just to name a few … and I loved it - ALL!!! From The Clash, The Police, Maddness, Psychedelic Furs, New Order, Sisters of Mercy, The Waterboys, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Smiths, Killing Joke!! The list goes on ….. and on …. So much creative and experimental music … and much to my poor Mother’s horror, it was also a time when I was getting creative & experimental with shaving parts or all my hair off as well!! I know! Don’t ask …. I dunno … Blame it on 80’s teenage angst!! Blame it on all those Phil Collins drum solos!! Blame it on Tom Sellecks’ moustache! …. Or just Blame it on the Boogie!! I don’t know what I was thinking! I wish I had a picture for you but I’m pretty sure my Mum destroyed any photographic evidence of my crazy hairstyles … but mostly I was crazy about the music … such great music!! So what does all this have to do with going to India? Everything! … especially when you’re wondering what kind of music to download onto your Ipod to listen to while travelling around India. Definitely The Clash! I’m also taking this awesome cover of ‘Rock the Casbah’ by Rachid Taha - great idea giving it an Eastern edge. You know … It all makes me wonder? If you were travelling to India, what would you be sure to upload onto your Ipod? I’m open to any suggestions! Not the Go Go’s! I’m wondering if the Blues would go down well in India? Or a little K.C. and the Sunshine Band? I wanna put on … ma, ma, ma, ma, ma boogie shoooes … and dance with you! :) Xx
