Day 4 of the challenge: A bit about landscape. When I first - TopicsExpress

Day 4 of the challenge: A bit about landscape. When I first started painting, I thought I would be a plein air painter, and soon found that while I loved the subject matter, I also loved painting my animals. Since I am self taught and got a late start, I figured I better pick a skill set to focus on and get moving or I was never going to master anything. I chose my animals for a number of reasons. I have since had the opportunity to do some plein air painting here and there; I love it and always learn a ton! I dont use a landscape palette when I go; I just use my regular palette which ends up taking me lots more time in mixing and results in some pretty saturated landscapes. Maybe someday Ill have time to focus more on painting landscapes like the ones I see in my head (or in the posts of the amazingly talented plein air artists whose work I drool over), but in the meantime, I think my landscapes are an accurate reflection of where I am with that part of my artistic development. They are bright, cheerful, and just for fun! Today, I would like pass on my no obligation nomination to Ryan Mitchell of Gangbusters Pottery by Ryan Mitchell. His pots for the people mentality results in beautiful and truly functional pottery. He makes everything with feel in mind; once you pick up one of his heirloom-quality mugs, you tend not to want to put it down again, and I love his creative approach to design.
