Day #6 of gratitude: Im so grateful for my 4 pups...even though they are far from being pups anymore. Our 4 labrador retrievers are such blessings. We have a black, 2 chocolates, and a yellow. Their little souls are gentle, sweet, and humorous. They have really brightened our lives as a family. Zoe turned 13 on my birthday, and shes really slowing down. It breaks my heart to comprehend that shes a tired old girl, and that shes winding down. I still remember so clearly when she was a baby with those bright puppy eyes and black coat like velvet and of course that wagging tail! She spends most of her time sleeping now, and is becoming a little senile, but still enjoys her meals. (what lab doesnt??) Godiva is 12 and a half, and has laryngeal paralysis, which is progressive. We treat her conservatively due to her age. She sleeps a lot too as her energy tolerance is taxed. Her best friend is any ball; only now she just carries one around in her mouth....her crazy ball chasing days are gone.....the days of my chubby little chocolate girl who hid under bushes and ate all of our landscaping are gone. Guinness is 11 and is my chocolate boy. Hes always been a little mush, now hes just a lazier one, however.....any slight movement in the kitchen, and that boy is there, looking for a hand-out. Bailey is Bailey. Shes our yellow, and far from mellow! At 8, shes the baby, and everyone better know it. She wants ALL the attention, but shes too cute not to give in. Im so thankful for the joy they have brought into our lives. Any pet lover knows that our pets are our babies; our kids in fur coats. I cant imagine the day that I have to say goodbye to any of them. I am grateful for another day with them, and will relish the time they are in our lives.
