Dear AELLA community...we will be sharing some posts with ideas - TopicsExpress

Dear AELLA community...we will be sharing some posts with ideas regarding effective advocacy...how best in our shares, words, actions and daily lives to effect change for all those non human and human animals facing exploitation, suffering, torture and murder. One point I would like to make in this first post regading the subject and in response to some of the comments I see here at times and on other AR pages is that hate speech, threats of violence towards those who exploit, torture and murder only HELPS those who do so to continue with their evil acts. I understand whole-heartedly the pain, anger, rage and hurt we feel when we see horrific images and videos...when we read stories of the devilish acts of some humans. However, when we wish them dead, threaten them, etc... to it plays RIGHT into the hands of those who oppose us. They would love us to be violent and revel in screenshotting and sharing the violent comments of AR activists. Why? Because those who oppress and kill love to portray those who the speak up for animals as violent, terrorists, dangerous, etc... We see it in the language of the anti-gag laws which speak of those who film farm abuse as terrorism. We see it in the meat, dairy, egg, vivisection, fur, etc... industries who claim they are threatened by militant activists. IT DOES NOT HELP THE ANIMALS, BUT RATHER THOSE WHO OPPRESS THEM TO SPEAK VIOLENTLY OR THREATEN. This fight is NOT about US or OUR ANGER...it is about liberation and making change to reduce and ultimately eradicate the suffering of the voiceless. I understand you may need to vent...but please watch your words or talk to friends offline, etc...violent, threatening posts and ANY violent action can set the Movement back years. We want to move it forward at lightning speed. We are not saying be passive....quite the contrary! Speak up, educate, share (in future post on effective advocacy I will share some specific ideas and there is much on the Vegan Outreach webiste and other websites that speak to this via current research)...if you have the opportunity to non-violently liberate, do so...but please understand the great power our words said in anger and grief have to play into the hands of those we fight against and how such language is damaging and undermines ones credibility immediately. We know it hurts...but talking about hurting others only creates more hurt for those currently suffering and dying...
