Dear Corporate America, Im writing this open letter because I - TopicsExpress

Dear Corporate America, Im writing this open letter because I feel my friends and I are somehow directly responsible for your thinking it was a bright idea to open your retail stores all day on Thanksgiving Day. Im taking the liberty of speaking on behalf of my nearest and dearest friends who suffer from OISD (Obsessive Impulsive Shopping Disorder) along with me. You know who you are...no worries though Ill tag you in this post just in case youre in denial. We dont want this. Opening after midnight was innovative and exciting but opening Thursday is a bit much and actually kinda takes the sport out of the Black Friday experience. Yes we love shopping. Yes, our hearts have skipped a beat at the sight of that coveted item weve been salivating over for months that made it from the runway to your stores. Yes, weve spent hours on line strategizing throughout the year prioritizing which purchases are more pressing than others. Yes, we shamefully own up to having sacrificed a lavish lunch date with friends in order to purchase that item weve been price stalking forever, that is now finally deeply discounted and we cant imagine walking out of the store without it; although we were just browsing with absolutely no intention of buying...and yes we walked out hungry yet happy...thats what God gave us pb&j sandwiches for... shopping emergency situations such as this. No, we are not above trying to secure a gig at one of our favorite retailers simply for the employee discount. Yes, we are fully aware that if one were to calculate our earnings versus on the job spending one would in fact discover we have actually been paying said retailer to employ us rather than earning extra income. Trust, we have our issues but we have scruples and we must demand that the line be drawn. We take issue with your decision to open all day during Thanksgiving Day. Many of us have bonded with these retail workers. Weve shopped with them during our milestones, know some of their kids and pets names, we have grown to, dare I say, downright love some of them. And they too love us. They wont allow us to commit fashion crimes and faux pas. They have respected our budgets and made honest recommendations. They have heard us struggling in the dressing room, wrestling with ourselves to disrobe our unfit bodies of that half a size too small dress we thought would work and didnt. Yet, they didnt laugh (out loud) nor indicate in anyway that they were fully aware of what was going down in there. If thats not love then I just dont know what is. They have held items for us, taken our ridiculous phone calls, assisted our significant others as we talked them through purchases via telephone, during those rare occurrences we were physically incapable of shopping for ourselves. With all sincerity retailers play a major role in our lives. Make no mistake, we are not your ordinary run of the mill shoppers. We are advanced. We possess a set of shopping skills that gives you something to meet about at your corporate offices. We have mastered maximizing your store discounts and coupon usage in ways that force you to adjust store policies. We drive the economy. We dont NEED anything. We love to shop and the feeling of excitement that comes with it. Were not simply fashionable, we are gifted. In this season of thanksgiving we are grateful for the freedom, finances, and ability to shop and appreciative of those who tolerate us. We believe strongly that they too should have the day to enjoy their families. Our retail friends have earned it, if for no other reason, for dealing with us. So lets make things right with the world. Everyone eat turkey and all their favorite dishes, enjoy their family & friends on Thursday. We can all get rested and refreshed so we can fully engage in the drama that is Black Friday once again. I want a guilt free shopping indulgence dealing with smiling faces on willing workers. Love, My name is Malinda and I am an AvidShopper
