Dear Friends, Genesis 1 reveals the handiwork of the Creator, who made us in His image and in His likeness. In fact, not only does He reveal Himself as the Creator in Genesis 1, He also reveals the Creative Process. The culmination of that Creative Process is the formation of Creative People in His image and likeness, to take the raw material of Paradise and make use of it creatively and innovatively to bring His glory to bear on the entire inhabited earth until His Creative Imprint through His Creative People fills the earth. All too often, the creative and innovative dimension of our life in Christ is ignored, or even dismissed as unimportant. Imagine how empty our lives would be just within the realm of Christendom without artists, musicians, poets, and the like. However, again all too often, creativity and innovation are relegated only to the arts and the humanities, to the exclusion of creativity in administration, in technology, in economics, in business, in science, in social science, in education, and the list could go on and on. God is the Creative Genius behind it all! The challenge we face as we move forward in this hour as we come to the climax of a 500-year period since the Great Reformation is that in many ways the Church in the West is facing major battles and struggles, on a number of fronts. If there is to be another Reformation, rooted in the Hope of the Gospel, it is important that we come to terms with how God has in every major visitation in history released fresh creativity and innovation in order for His glorious Gospel to be felt, experienced, and embraced. What about you? Do you consider yourself to be creative and innovative? Or have you bought into the lie that only certain types of people are creative, and that you are content to live in a hum-drum cycle of limited expectations and predictability? Does the Scripture have anything at all to offer you, regardless of your calling in life, to help you unlock your creativity and innovative potential? Did you falsely believe that creativity requires the possession of extraordinary talent? What if the Scripture teaches that we are all creative, AND that CREATIVITY because we are all made in the image and likeness of the Creator, is to be a LIFESTYLE? Are you constrained and held back by the limits of generational family beliefs? Do you feel constrained by intellectual limits and think it disqualifies you from accessing your creative potential? What if the Spirit within you wants to show you how to elicit creativity, playfully, intuitively, proactively, and spontaneously? What might happen in your walk with God if you learned how to be more playful? Oh, now that may upset the Pharisees whose need to strain a gnat and swallow a camel prevents them from enjoying God. However, here is a verse to consider when thinking about God wanting us to be playful and creative in His Holy City: And the streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls playing in its streets. Zech. 8:5 Before you dismiss that as strictly related to children playing, remember that Jesus said the Kingdom belongs to those who are willing to become as children. Even Isaiah makes the connection between life-long childhood and what He dreams of: No longer will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, Or an old man who does not live out his days; For the youth will die at the age of one hundred And the one who does not reach the age of one hundred Will be thought accursed. Isaiah 65:20 You dont have to be a Rembrandt to be creative in your arena or life calling! You just have to be the YOU God CREATED you to be and access that Creative Genius that is Christ in you the Hope of Glory. Here are some questions that will assist you in considering whether creativity and innovation are something that enhance your walk with God and your responsibilities in life: · Would you like to be able to manage your energy more effectively on a daily basis in a way that enables you to manage your time? · How often do you access a state of true curiosity when facing challenges and even adversities? Do you know how to become curious when you need to? · How often do you get stuck in a rut and lose your flexibility when having to deal with recurring issues? · How aware are you of the mental models you hold deep inside that determine the way you perceive the world around you? · Do you know how to find the flow of the Spirit and access peak states of awareness and performance on a consistent basis? · If you are in a position of responsibility do you know how to continually access that fundamental state of creativity where solutions are forthcoming? · Do you find yourself resistant to taking risks even when they are the only way into the future? · How often do you laugh? · How do you sustain the sense of adventure that is essential to every life quest that leads to conquest?
