Dear INDIAN Citizens, Namaskar! Sub: DISSEMINATION of information regarding NOTA None Of The Above option on the EVM. NOTA-? NONE OF THE ABOVE Voting option in upcoming general electon-2014 ! I wish to bring to your kind attention that as per the Honble Supreme Court of INDIA in its judgment dated 27-09-2013, in WRIT petition (C) No: 161 of 2004 has directed that the Honble Election Commission should make necessary provision in the ballot papers / EVMs for NOTA None Of The Above option so that electors who do not wish to vote for any of the candidates can exercise their RIGHT NOT TO VOTE for any candidate without violation of the secrecy of their decision. Honble Supreme Court of INDIA also directed Honble Election Commission of INDIA to undertake awareness programmes to educate the masses about NOTA option. NOTA: The votes polled against the NOTA option cannot be treated as valid votes. Under Section 158 of the Representation of the people Act, 1951, it is the total number of valid votes polled by all the contesting candidates that is to be taken into account for calculating the one sixth of votes polled by individual candidates for return of security deposit. Thus, it is clarified that the votes polled against the NOTA option is not to be taken into account for calculating the total valid votes polled by the contesting candidates for the purpose of return of security deposit. NOTA option among the people! 1) All communication material / creatives displaying EVM or EVM messages should mandatorily have information about NOTA. 2) Similarly, EVM familarisation Camps should display NOTA button. 3) Other printed publicity material relating to turnout may carry at the bottom, information about NOTA in a font which is atleast two points smaller than the font size of the remaining message font size. 4) The above should be appropriate and hence further display of NOTA option in audio visual of any other format may not be necessary. The information about NOTA should be as follows: 1) The last button of the EVM is NOTA, which a voter can press, if He/she does not wish to vote for any of the contesting candidates. 2) Electors who do not wish to vote for any candidates can still exercise their RIGHT TO VOTE by choosing NOTA! A question has been raised whether the votes polled against the NOTA option is to be considered for determining the forfeiture of security deposit? In token of my respect, I appeal all section of people think twice before you cast your valuable VOTE for betterment of our greater INDIA. MUST VOTE, if you are not interested to cast your vote in favour of contesting candidates, please cast your valuable VOTE in favour of NOTA None Of The Above option and be a VOTER!
