Dear Mr. Cathy- I was sad to hear you had passed away this morning, but Im sure youre doing just fine now. You were an exemplary citizen and businessman – oh, and a pretty good cook too! Your unprecedented approach to business has had major effects on corporations in America for the past 68 years and is central to why Chick-fil-A has been so wildly successful. The 6 months I spent with your company taught me a lot about learning to work with different people, as well as good (and bad) ways to manage and lead employees. I can honestly say that the lessons learned those months will serve me well for the rest of my life. You also unlocked the code to the perfect combination of customer service and employee care. It’s only a matter of time before Merriam-Webster will include “Chick-fil-A” as a synonym of “Outstanding Customer Service”. Your passion has seeped through every level of the company; the care you showed was contagious, and will continue long after you have gone. Not many people can be as focused on the customer while still taking care that the employee is learning and growing. Not only did you create one of the best business environments in the nation (you made the Top 5 list by Forbes), and not only did you show an unparalleled commitment to serving the customer (Top 5 in Customer Service in America according to Wall Street), but you found ways to make an impact your community. That set the standard for your employees, and you inspire them to go “above and beyond” the call of duty every day. There is no telling what your impact has been over the last 68 years. Your entrepreneurial spirit changed fast food forever. Your dedication to your employees has helped countless families. Your commitment to your customer has changed thousands of lives, and your care for your community has changed America. For that I thank you. And for that, I will eat a Chicken Sandwich in your honor today. #ChickFilA
