Dear Poornima Thank You for tagging me for listing my favorite literature. I loved lot of literature which exists in Indian languages like Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi... I would love if I could explore Malyalam and Tamil translations of classic novels, drama or poetry. Some books enlightens, some give knowledge, some entertain, enlighten and give knowledge. The writer is very important. Will start with some English ones. 1.Richard Bachs Jonathan Livingston the seagull, and Hypnotizing Maria.( Superb and enlightening) 2.John Adairs Effective Strategic Leadership ( A must read..no it is not a boring textbook!!) 3.Quotations by Mark Twain, Picasso, Albert Einstein, Chanakya, Socretes and other wise people 4.Leo Tolstoys short stories ( I would like to read more of his work) 5.Some books by Osho Rajnish( leave the controversy, enjoy the truth he shares. He has discovered certain facts which puts him at equal level to some most respected scientists) 6.Paulo Coelhos the AlChemist 7.Yann Martels Life of Pi, ( a situation we may seldom come across ourselves) 8. Love Story by Erich Segal and A Marriage proposal forgot the name of the writer ( good romantic stories) Great Expectations by Charles Dickens 9. Sidney Sheldons If tomorrow comes.. ( at that time it was very much unexplored area of life. today there are many movies on that theme..) 10. Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse ( translation) Now Indian Literature 1. Kurukshetra and Socrates by Manubhai Pancholi ( must be translated. It gives a much better understanding about Mahabharat, Krishna, what we know about Socrates) 2. Shesh Prashna by Sharadbabu ( most of his books are worth reading but this one is must. I like his writing more than Rabindranath Tagore as I find it nearer to the real Bengali common people and culture. He understands and writes about emotions of woman of his era better than even many female writers) 3. Samudrantike, Atrapi, Karnalok by Dhruv Bhatt ( some are translated in English) 4. Umashankar Joshi the ligendry poet of Gujarat, Parichay Pustika and His poetry ( you will not understand his excellence without reading the Parichay Pustika) 5. Galib, Parichay Pustika( introduction book) ( I love Galibs poetry but to understand them some commentary is required as I do not know Urdu and Farsi well) 6. Short stories I studied during my school days have been heart touching, I get tears in my eyes when I remember some of those stories like Rotlo, ladu nu Jaman, Sharnai na sur and many more. and I loved Romance of a busy broker which I studied in English class. Birbal, Mulla Nasiruddin and all that logical fun stuff and Panchtantra lessons. 7. I have not read but after watching movies like Guide, Rudali and Pinjar I feel , R.K.
