Dear all, Recently we have had a number of returns which has - TopicsExpress

Dear all, Recently we have had a number of returns which has lead to some of our dogs being quite unsettled and the team feeling really quite deflated. Whilst some of the returns have been unavoidable and understandable, some of them, in our opinion could have been avoided. Adopting a dog is a big life changing commitment and a lot of thought needs to go into making the decision. Before you adopt a dog please consider; Can I love this dog and treat him/her as part of my family? Do I have time for my dog? Not only for walks and feeding, but for training and attention. Can I cope emotionally and physically with my dog? Can I afford to have a dog? Will I be able to keep my dog if my circumstances changed? Would I be willing to work with my dog if he/she presented undesirable behaviour? Would I be willing to make sacrifices for my dog? Would I be willing to accept that it may take months and months for my dog to settle in? We try where possible to match the right dog to the right home and we do get it right, a lot of the time but not 100% of the time. We do home checks and at every home check we do we are always 100% happy with the people adopting our dogs - otherwise we wouldnt give them one of our dogs. This post is NOT to have a go at anyone but to simply try and avoid people adopting before they are ready. We do put posts on about all these lovely homeless babies and sometimes they can be so heart wrenching that people become desperate to help but please please think it through before going ahead. We are a small team, we have 21 dogs, we have a waiting list of over 20 and dogs waiting to come back. Returns make everything worse so if you arent sure we would rather the dog didnt go in the first place. Thanks, Fiona x h
