December 15th 2014 - Day One hundred and one of my 365 days of gratitude........... I am Grateful....... For Terrie......On Saturday, December 15th 1979, Terrie and I got together at a non-descript Methodist church in North Charleston SC with a small group of family and friends to begin a new life together...... A seventeen year old girl and a 24 year old sailor - both newly sober and very early in recovery......neither of us knew what it was like to not have an escape from reality so it would be another nine months before we actually got into recovery....... It has not been an easy road we chose to walk together....Most people would have thrown in the towel many years ago.........We were fighting an uphill battle and had so much going against us as we learned how to live sober, learned how we fit into everyday life and learned how to live together.......As we evolved into the people we were supposed to be, we would look at each other and think - this is not the person I married.....more than a couple of times over the years we considered chucking the whole thing and running like hell, but we continued to put our effort into making this life together work......we may not have always liked each other, but we definitely loved each other the entire time.......We were blessed with two wonderful children who, despite our best efforts to the contrary, grew into awesome people........and we have a grandson we can spoil...... There are days still, where we look at each other and wonder why we continue to struggle on......but we do........There have been terrible days, bad days , good days and wonderful days over the years and we try to remember the good days and not let the bad days influence our feeling for each other.......So, after all that and against all odds, today, December 15th 2014 my Love and I celebrate 35 years of wedded bliss........ Happy 35th anniversary to my love Terrie Sigler.....maybe the next 35 years will be less hectic.........
