Defection: Gundiri’s Associates Vow To Remain In APC Some senior members of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Adamawa State including the running mate of Markus Gundiri in the 2011 gubernatorial election, Alhaji Abdulrazak Namdas have disassociated themselves from the recent defection of Markus Gundiri from APC to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The action of the stakeholders came few days after 20 out of the 21 local government chairmen of the defunct ACN disassociated themselves from the defection of Gundiri to PDP. During his speech at the occasion which took place at Lelewal Motel in Yola yesterday, the spokesperson of the group and running mate of Gundiri in 2011 gubernatorial election, Alhaji Abdurrazak Namdas reiterated their support for the APC saying that it was the only party to beat come 2015 general elections. “As former members of the defunct ACN, we were aware of the fact that APC was a collection of different groups/individuals, it therefore goes without saying that only sacrifice and patience will make the party work. “This attribute was what is being exhibited hence the reason for the strength and harmony of the APC today,” Namdas said. Namdas described as untrue speculations that APC was bedevilled with myriads of internal problems which was responsible for the defection of Gundiri to PDP adding that it is the PDP that has a big problem which forced five of its governors to defect to APC. “Just as there are little hitches in APC, there are major hitches in the PDP which led to the defection of five of its governors for the first time in the history of the party and still counting,” he added. Namdas who said that the party was poised to entrench the rule of law in its dealings assured that every member of the party would be treated fairly in line with the party’s disposition to treat its members with equity. “We wish to assure our people that just as we secured and protected their interests during the registration exercise, we shall do the same during the forthcoming congresses. Our people can bear us witness that we took part in the just concluded registration exercise with over 70 per cent of our people registered as members of the APC,” he said. He also debunked insinuations that the names of the party’s executives in the state has been formed saying the Interim National Executive Committee of the party was working assiduously on providing guidelines for the conduct of free and fair congresses. In his remarks, deputy national chairman of the defunct ACN, Mr Boss Mustapha urged supporters of the party not to listen to those casting aspersions on the party adding that any party that is developing as fast as APC will naturally face such obstacles. The interim secretary of the party, Ambassador Fati Balla told aspiring members of the party not to lose hope as the party’s registration is a continuous process and everyone will be captured in due course. “How many PDP governors decamped to APC, and we are yet to see any APC governor defect to PDP, is that not a sign that APC is the party to beat?. “We are not rattled by the antics of those traducers who kept on deceiving the people as we know our prospects cannot be dimmed before the very eyes of the electorate following our good manifesto,” she said.
