Delhis Patiala court recently imposed a Rs. 10,000 fine on Union - TopicsExpress

Delhis Patiala court recently imposed a Rs. 10,000 fine on Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. While hearing the criminal defamation case filed by Gadkari against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha ruled that Gadkari failed on act on the courts order. The court had specifically ordered Gardkaris counsel during an earlier hearing that they were to file an affidavit to Prashant Bhushan, Kejriwals counsel three days in advance of todays hearing. This was so that Arvind Kejriwals legal team has time to prepare a defence to what is mentioned in the affidavit. However, violating that order, Gadkaris counsel handed over the affidavit document to Kejriwals counsel on the same day as the hearing, without even filing it in court. As Gadkaris counsel attempted to mislead the court into believing that they had followed the courts order, the Metropolitan Magistrate said “You cannot take the court for a ride. I am saying that compliance has not been done. Do not create a ruckus in the court. The order has been passed and you can challenge it.”, and a Rs. 10,000 fine was imposed on the union minister. It is to be noted that the next hearing date is March 21, 2015. Leads one to wonder if the union ministers real intent was to just keep delaying the progress of the case.
