Derek Edgerton here is an email i wrote to the president of Rasmussen. Of course i got no response. Hello president Waite, My name is Adam Veazie and if you have never heard of me that is ok. Up until Thursday I was an adjunct instructor at the Ocala campus. I decided not to renew my contract with Rasmussen. You will see why I have made this decision, and the extreme frustration that I have endured during the 3 years I have been at Rasmussen. My first point is that I worked at Rasmussen for 3 years. During those 3 years I only missed 1 class. That’s right I only called in once. The reason I called in was I contracted appendicitis and had to have my appendix removed. With that kind of attendance record would have killed you to pick up the phone and take 5 minutes to personally thank me for my dedication? That is the main problem with Rasmussen is lack of recognition. I feel like I was not recognized for anything I did at Rasmussen. I was only an adjunct instructor and was replaceable . The second point I would like to make is in reference to academic integrity. It is a joke at Rasmussen. The instructors are made to feel like the bad guy for reporting the violation and are bullied, in my opinion, in an attempt to retract the allegation. I have a personal example I would like to share with you. About 3 quarters ago 2 students in my programming 1 class turned in the same exact assignment. It was a programming assignment and their code was exactly the same in every way except for their name. I immediately reported this to my superiors and documented the event. This event occurred during week 3 of the term. I was not given an answer for 8 weeks, and during this time I was asked no less than 5 times by Dr. John Maduko if I was sure it was an academic integrity violation, if I was sure that I didn’t tell them they could work together, if there was no way it was a coincidence due to the ease of the assignment. Each time my answer was yes I am sure that it is an academic integrity violation. My third point is in relation to the online classes. The online classes are the most unorganized mess I have ever seen. The students don’t learn anything in them and complain about them constantly. Maybe you should take a page out of the customer service class that Rasmussen offers. If your customers, students, aren’t happy with the service/ product you provide then they will go somewhere else. If you in upper management would actually listen to the students about the online classes you would learn what is really going on in your organization. The reason you don’t is simple. It is all about money with Rasmussen College. Instead of putting 6 students in a residential course, it is more profitable to shove them in an online class no matter how much they protest. My fourth point is about pay. Rasmussen can promote everyone else to made up positions, pay them more money, but refuse to pay the adjunct instructors more money. How much work would you say the adjunct instructor position is worth? In case you didn’t notice something about this letter I will tell you. Money was at the bottom of the list. The disrespect that I endured during my time at Rasmussen is what led me to leave your organization, not money.
