Development in any region depends on both cities and villages - TopicsExpress

Development in any region depends on both cities and villages doing well. But our interventions in government are in complete silos, and thats half the problem. For the last few weeks, I have been working on a template for a regional development strategy, which can potentially benefit different parts of a state, starting with Karnataka. I should also say that I am happy that MLAs from some of these regions are also showing interest in this, and hopefully that augurs well for whatever is proposed later. Lets see. Can we make the smart cities thinking align with a vision for smart villages too? Can we bring triple bottom lines into interventions in taluks, and delivery economy, ecology and equity. And most importantly, how do we construct intervention programs so that they are alert to such integrated thinking on the input side and on the outcomes that they pursue? The ecosystem value of what each of us can do is often much higher than the direct value of our efforts. While we continue doing what we do, must be able to imagine a networked world in which every development initiative benefits from many others, and equally, it contributes to others too.
