Did You See “It?” by Al Willen, 6/8/14 Because I have been actively involved as a serious paranormal investigator and Demonologist for over 45 years, curious people often ask me what ghosts “look like.” And, quite frankly, there isnt a standard answer for that question. They sometimes appear (very rarely) as solid, interactive full-figured apparitions. They sometimes appear as “shadow” people. They sometimes look semi-transparent. They sometimes look like neon, self-illuminating “snake-like” entities. (Which is how I often perceive them.) And they sometimes look like orb-like globules. I think how they appear to use, depends on several factors: 1. The specific entity involved. 2. The amount of power that the entity has available to it for purposes of revealing itself. 3. How badly the entity wishes to communicate with us. 4. The specific environment involved at the point of contact. 5. The specific (and very relative) perceptional abilities of the person(s) and/or instrumentation used in that contact. Last night, something usual happened on the TV Show “Ghost Adventures.” This anomaly was captured during the “Whaley House” episode which wasnt commented upon by the Ghost Adventures Crew (aka GAC). (I saw the event-in-question on an older 27 inch low-res TV; perhaps it looked entirely different on a high-res larger-format TV. But what I saw could very possibly be a spirit.) Here are the specifics for you to check out yourself: Show: Ghost Adventures (on Travel Channel) Air Date: Saturday, June 7, 2014 (in the NYC area) Location: Whaley House, Home-Theater area, San Diego CA Time-Code: 00:35:45 (This is the time of the episode when all the commercials have been eliminated) Description: Scene is within the Home-Theater location of the Whaley House. Video is captured at a 45 degree angle with investigators Aaron Goodwin nearing the stage (asking questions), and Zak Bagans sitting behind him with a hand-held full-spectrum camera which Bagans is using to take still photos. Both are facing the stage area. Bagans back is facing the back of the room (left side of him). There is a (what appears as) a vertical round column on the left side of the room. The anomaly happens as Goodwin is saying the following dialog: “Were trying to get another great shot of you. Is that OK?” If you look carefully at the left-hand side of your TV screen, you will see something that has the general size and mass of a large squirrel. In the 1-2 seconds that it took Goodwin to say his dialog, this animated object can be seen moving from the bottom of the vertical round column, around it, and up to the top of the column. Obviously, it moved very quickly. Aaron then leaves the room, and investigator Nick Groff enters. After a minute or so, Bagans complains to Groff that he perceives that “something” has touched his back; that something is behind him. (“Behind him” is the area where we visually saw the anomaly.) Logical Explanation: 1. Perhaps what was captured was a small animal (i.e. a rat) which jumped from the ground to the column, and then ran up it. 2. Since this was a low-light environment, and since the video camera was focused on Bagans and Goodwin, a running animal would not be in focus necessarily if the aperture was sent to a wide-open position (usual in low-light shootings). The Depth-Of-Field would be too narrow. Additionally, normal photographic noise artifacts and interpolation would contribute to making a normal animal seem as an “anomaly.” Since I did not have access to the Raw video footage, and didnt examine this footage carefully in a controlled evaluative area, I cannot certify that this was truly a “spirit” being captured on video. But it did raise my curiosity as something to be examined more carefully. It also points out that even seasoned Paranormal Investigators sometimes miss potentially amazing evidence. I invite you to see this episode for yourself, and see if you can spot what could very well be a “ghost.”
