Did you miss my preview for our boys for 2014? Here it is again. Season Preview: Well, its that time of the year again. Were here at Round 1 at the beginning of the new season and were ready and raring to go. First of all, heres my 22 that I believe will take on the Kangaroos on Friday night at Etihad Stadium. B: Mark Baguley, Michael Hurley, Dustin Fletcher HB: Marty Gleeson, Cale Hooker, Michael Hibberd C: Brent Stanton, Jobe Watson, Dyson Heppell HF: Paul Chapman, Jake Carlisle, David Zaharakis F: Jackson Merrett, Joe Daniher, Kyle Hardingham R: Patrick Ryder, Brendon Goddard, Ben Howlett I/C: Heath Hocking, David Myers, Zach Merrett Sub: Leroy Jetta Emg: Elliott Kavanagh, Tayte Pears, Jason Ashby When writing that side, I didnt intend to have three debutants playing their first game, but for team balance, Merrett and Gleeson, in my opinion, have to play against the Kangaroos. Gleesons form in the pre-season and NAB Challenge has certainly earned him a spot in the senior side at the expense of Courtenay Dempsey who is injured. With the new interchange cap, I’m was incredibly surprised to see Bomber Thompson say today (being Tuesday) that Daniher and Ryder will be doing the ruck-work leaving Fraser Thurlow out of the side. Came as a bit of a shock to me as I think we should be playing with two key forwards at all times, however Bomber is a two time premiership coach and I’m sure he knows what he is doing. Zach Merrett has been fantastic since coming to the Bombers. The thing that surprised me so much, for a young player, he was able to find space so easily and use the ball efficiently. Has pace too! SEASON OVERVIEW: No doubt the season starts off pretty tough against four pretty tough opponents. Three of our four opponents are touted as top four potential. North Melbourne, Hawthorn in Round 2, arch rival Carlton in Round 3, which anything could happen and then Round 4 at Patersons Stadium against the heavily backed Fremantle Dockers. Now weve already seen that anything can happen during the season so who knows what we, or our opponents could do on the day of those games. Sure, its a tough opening month, but I have full confidence in the side that we will be able to at least win two of them. Once we get Tom Belllchambers back into the side, we will be a much more balanced side, as well as Jason Winderlich and Courtenay Dempsey, we will see a rapid improvement in our game than we have in the pre-season. PLAYER PREVIEWS: 1. MICHAEL HIBBERD Hibberd is obviously a crucial part to our line-up. He should be right to play Round 1 against the Kangaroos after suffering a very minor hamstring injury against Port Adelaide in the NAB Challenge. He reads the play so well and is crucial to our defence. You can almost rely on him each and every week to put his body on the line and have an impact in defence. 2. TOM BELLCHAMBERS We would obviously love Tom to be playing from the beginning of the season and have some sort of pre-season, but unfortunately its not the way it goes and we will have to wait until around Anzac Day before we see him. We all know what he can do, and we hope he doesnt have an injury interrupted season. 3. PAUL CHAPMAN Sure, he is a veteran, but has all the attributes to come to the club and have an immediate impact. 251 games, plenty of goals, three time premiership player, Norm Smith medal. Hes pretty much done it all at Geelong and hopefully he can bring something similar to our football club in the short time that he is going to wear the red and black. Welcome Chappy! 4. JOBE WATSON Not much can be said about this guy, that hasn’t already been said. A superstar. An elite player of the competition. A Brownlow Medallist. An inspirational captain. Watson will be again looking to have a big year and lead the improving midfield each and every year. I think we may possibly see Jobe spend more time forward also in 2014, mainly due to the interchange cap and the somewhat lack of forward power that we have this year. A terrific player that is like a fine wine, keeps getting better with age. 5. BRENT STANTON An elite runner of the competition, and no doubt his disposal has improved, however my one, let’s say, criticism of Stanton is consistency. Sure, Stanton is always finding the ball, however it’s the impact he has on games. And everyone is allowed a stinker or two during the year, I’m not denying that. I’m a big fan of Stanton and his work-rate is first class and here’s hoping he has a massive 2014. 6. JOE DANIHER He’s going to be an exciting prospect this kid. Just 19 years of age and will become the focal point of our forward line for the next decade and a bit. A terrific contested mark and an outstanding work-rate for a 200cm+ kid, is phenomenal. Is he going to have an immediate impact? Who knows? But, although he is our number one forward now, we cannot expect too much from him as we must remember he is a kid. He has all the talent, but he’s going to have some days where things don’t go right. 7. LEROY JETTA Out of contract at the end of the season, Leroy needs a big year if he wants to keep his position at the Essendon Football Club. I attended majority of VFL games last year and watched him play and the way that Jetta applied himself was like he was a completely different footballer to the one that we saw in the AFL. Running hard, tackling hard, using the ball well and playing with confidence. He has all the talents, just needs to apply himself in the AFL when he gets yet another opportunity. Time is ticking Leroy and only you can change it. 8. JASON WINDERLICH I’d go as far to say that Winderlich is in our top five most important players on our list at the moment. He reads the ball very well, uses it well, is quick, experienced, kicks goals and is a terrific contested mark for a man of his size. Hasn’t played as many games in his career as us supporters would like, but when he does play, he is so valuable to the team and hopefully he can get as many games into him this season as possible. Will miss Round 1 with minor hamstring, should be OK for Round 2 against Hawthorn. 9. BRENDON GODDARD I’ll put my hand up, I wasn’t the biggest fan of “BJ” coming to the club, however he was back to his best in 2013 and ended up taking out our Best and Fairest. Goddard has brought some terrific leadership to the football club since his arrival at the beginning of 2013 and despite all the off-field drama, he fronted the media time and time again answering the questions no one else could and very quickly earned the respect of his new Bomber team-mates, coaches and more importantly, the fans. Great to have him on board for 2014! 10. NICK O’BRIEN Hard to judge when Nick is at in his career at the moment. I know the coaches rate his leadership very highly and so do his team-mates but his career has somewhat, stagnated a little bit in my view. He is a terrific young player, don’t get me wrong, but where does he fit in is the question. Will be playing in the midfield in 2014 in the VFL and is being developed as a tagger somewhat, possibly may have to bide his time until Heath Hocking makes way or isn’t up to it form wise. Intriguing year coming up for O’Brien who I believe is out of contract at the end of the year. 11. DAVID ZAHARAKIS A brilliant footballer. Just a brilliant footballer. My favourite footballer at the Essendon Football Club and purely because of the way he plays his football. His hard and tough at the football and when he gets the ball on the outside and is allowed to run, he is just as good. Terrific skills, quick, kicks goals as midfielder, there’s not much else you want from a midfielder. The best thing that Zaharakis has done as become that complete footballer and not the “one game wonder” that some others still think he is. Has had a full pre-season and could be in-line for another best and fairest if he plays a full year. 12. MARK BAGULEY I would go as far as saying that Mark Baguley has become our best small defender since Mark Johnson departed the club. We’ve struggled to have a decent small defender for such a long period of time and “Bags” has come into the side as a mature aged recruit and adjusted perfectly to the AFL lifestyle. Likes to run and carry out of defence and be attacking, but his defensive side is just as good and will be regular in the 22 for years to come. 14. JASON ASHBY In the games and trainings that I have been too since Bomber has been in charge, he seems to have a real emphasis on drilling Jason Ashby in every opportunity that he gets. If Jason doesn’t do something right, he seems to cop it more than others. Now is that because Bomber sees something special in Ashby? Maybe. Is Bomber trying to get the absolute best out of Ashby, let’s hope so. We’ve seen Ashby play in the pre-season and he looks a lively type with plenty of pace out of defence. It will be out of him and Gleeson on who will fill the void left by Courtenay Dempsey, unfortunately for Ashby, Gleeson may just be ahead. 15. COURTENAY DEMPSEY Courtenay’s has had a much interrupted pre-season and hasn’t really been able to hit the track running since returning from Colorado in late 2013. Which is disappointing as Courtenay is a terrific footballer and so crucial to our line-up. His run out of defence is vital and his ability to read the play coming towards him and be a third man up in a contest is something that will be missed in the first few rounds. Dempsey has certainly improved his defensive efforts in the last couple of years, as it was a real problem for him a few years ago. 16. TAYTE PEARS I’ve always liked Tayte as a footballer and was devastated when he suffered that pancreas injury way back in 2010. He has never been able to get back to the levels that he was playing at before he suffered that horrific injury. After signing a new two year deal at the end of last year, hopefully we can see Tayte return back to play some of his best football. Who knows, maybe he may be able to fill the role left by Dempsey as Pears is very good at running the ball out of defence. 17. JAKE MELKSHAM Big fan of this kid. Had a break-out half a year, you could say in the back half of the 2013 season. The game against Carlton in Round 11 was the turning point. He picked up around 20 touches for the game and kicked three crucial second half goals, including the match winner. Since that game, he was as consistent as ever and was kicking plenty of goals, which as a midfielder, is vital. Will miss the first two games through suspension, but gets back just in time to play Carlton again. 18. MICHAEL HURLEY No one is happier than me to see Michael Hurley playing in defence for season 2014. He is much more of a defender than he ever was a forward. He reads the play so much better as a defender and has terrific closing speed on his opponent. Hurley is very strong and will take some beating in a one on one contest. “Hurls” is also a pretty decent user of the football which also comes in handy when playing in defence. Don’t expect too much from him early, but come the middle of the year, he will look more comfortable in defence, than he ever did down forward. 19. SHAUN EDWARDS Hasn’t played much senior AFL football so has this great unknown about him, but plenty of fans, showing plenty of faith in him, naming him on a wing in their Round 1 teams, however that won’t be the case as he has had very little match practice in the pre-season and will need to work up some match fitness in the VFL. Has some great speed and is very versatile, meaning that he can play basically anywhere on the ground. Uses the ball well and may see him feature in the second half of the season. 20. JACKSON MERRETT I like Jackson a lot. I didn’t expect to see him at all last season after just the one game in 2012, yet he played more than ¾ of the season, which was fantastic to see. Probably didn’t kick as many goals as the coaches would have liked him to kick, however he will improve with the more games he plays. With the loss of Alwyn Davey and Jason Winderlich, I can see Merrett playing as a forward pocket in the first match against the Kangaroos and quite possibly may push into the midfield come the middle of the year, if a fit list is available. 21. DYSON HEPPELL Star. Star. Star. Star. Just how good has this guy been since making his debut in 2011? I still remember that day that he made his debut against the Western Bulldogs on a sunny day at Etihad Stadium. The team had a resounding win and Dyson was nominated as the Round 1 NAB Rising Star and also won the award that year. Since then, he has developed into a terrific young midfielder and will continue to grow as a footballer as time goes on. My only knock on him is that he needs to kick more goals. But that will come. 22. JAKE CARLISLE I’m just as happy about this decision about Carlisle playing forward as I am about Hurley playing in defence. The first thing I want to say about Carlisle playing forward is that we cannot expect him to just go down there and “be the man”. After playing the last two years in defence, it’s going to take a couple of games to get into the groove of things and be able to actually have an impact. Any impact that he has before that is a bonus and he has shown that in the NAB Challenge matches kicking four goals in two games, which isn’t a bad return. 23. DAVID MYERS I was a huge knocker of David in his early stages of his career but he has worked hard to get himself fit and is now a vital part of our midfield. Myers has that powerful left foot that I feel, the team needs to utilise more. However, in saying that, Myers needs to lower his eyes more often instead of bombing the ball away each and every time he gets it. He is the best kick at the football club and we need to make use of that when we can. Also signed a new deal at the end of last season and is now a part of the leadership group. 24. ALEX BROWNE Unfortunately for Alex, he will miss the season after needing a knee reconstruction, an injury that suffered early in the game against the Gold Coast Suns in the NAB Challenge. Honestly, it couldn’t have come at a worse time for Browne, especially with Dempsey out of the side with his injury problem, I’d have no question whatsoever, that Browne would have been the man to take Dempsey’s position while Courtenay sat on the sidelines nursing that calf injury. It would be harsh to move Browne on at the end of the year regarding the circumstances, so I think we will see him again in 2015. 25. ARIEL STEINBERG Not sure what to make of Ariel Steinberg to be honest. Bomber Thompson said earlier in the year that he and Kyle Hardingham are putting their hands up to fill the role of Stewart Crameri. Unfortunately for Steinberg, I see Hardingham comfortably ahead of him and not sure where Ariel sits at the moment. Last year, he spent the year in defence and now he is been thrown up forward. I’d like to be proven wrong, but I can’t see Ariel playing much senior football. 26. CALE HOOKER The number one player in the competition in 2013 for intercept marks. That’s quite an achievement for Cale to have. It just shows how well he reads the ball and although his disposal can let him down at times, it still has improved from what it was two years ago. Will relish having a new partner down in defence in Michael Hurley but Hooker will be looking to his game to another level in 2014. 27. ZACHARY MERRETT Toot Toot!! I called after the Gold Coast game that I will be driving the Zach Merrett bandwagon and there’s plenty of room. There is absolutely everything to like about this kid. Small, yes, but quick and has terrific skills. That left foot is something else and very rarely misses a target. I personally believe that he will play this Friday night against the Kangaroos, unfortunately, possibly as the sub but on pre-season form, I just think he has to play. Could most definitely be a steal at pick 26 of the draft. 28. ELLIOT KAVANAGH Elliot Kavanagh is a player that is concerning me a little bit. Taken in the 2011 Draft with our first round pick at Pick 19, Kavanagh has managed just the four games in those years and to me hasn’t really shown any signs of improvement. However, I’m more than willing to give him a chance before writing him off completely. Hope he can make a statement in 2014 and shows us the player we all know he is capable of being. 29. CORY DELL’OLIO Cory will spend another year on the rookie list this year and personally thought he may have been elevated in the departure of Alwyn Davey. However, with Chapman coming in, the rapid progression of Jackson Merrett and Jason Winderlich, Dell’Olio will have to bide his time in the VFL. Dell’Olio did kick the most goals in the VFL last year for the football club and looked a lively type, but couldn’t convert it to the AFL when he got the opportunity. Cory will need to take the opportunity when it comes along this season if he is to remain on the list next season. 30. PATRICK RYDER I thought Paddy had his best season last year and was more consistent than ever. Now with Bellchambers out for the first month or so, Ryder will have to step up to another level and become the main man. We all know how well Paddy plays when he is rucking solely by himself; however that’s just been the one game. It’s more than likely that he will be rucking 80% of the match while Bellchambers is out. 31. DUSTIN FLETCHER What else can be said about this guy? Heading into a record 22nd year of AFL football and going to break the clubs record of games played by Simon Madden of 378 games. Although it is highly unlikely that Dustin will play all 22 games in 2014, if he does, he will reach 400 in Round 23 against the Blues. Unfortunately, I believe this may be his final year, but I have said that the last two years and have been wrong. Who knows, he may reach that magical 400 in 2015. Needs an injury free year if that’s to happen. 32. TRAVIS COLYER Travis Colyer is certainly a gifted and talented footballer, however there’s one thing consistently lets him down and that’s his disposal. He has all the attributes to become a regular senior footballer but his disposal is a massive problem. If he can fix that problem, then I have no question whatsoever that Trav is in our best 22. Especially with his pace, and goal sense, something that has a bit of X-Factor that we as a football club need. 33. DYLAN VAN UNEN Not sure where Dylan Van Unen sits at the moment. He had a fairly good season in the VFL last year as a key defender and played on some of the best forwards in the competition. Watching him in the VFL last year, he does read the ball well and can take a competitive strong mark. Unless he plays some unreal football, I cannot see him making a senior debut this year. Whether he gets another year on the list, as he is out of contract at the end of the season, is unknown. 34. KYLE HARDINGHAM Kyle will be thrown forward this season and will more likely play the third tall forward throughout the year, filling the spot left by Stewart Crameri this season. Hardingham started his career as a forward and kicked four goals in a match-winning display against the Kangaroos. Hardingham has supreme versatility and can play at either end if needed, and the leap that he has on him is something very special and something that needs to be utilised. I think it’s safe to say that he will be playing more forward than back in season 2014 after the NAB Challenge matches. 35. MARTY GLEESON I must put my hand up and say, happily, that I picked Marty Gleeson to debut this year in the early rounds of the year and it now looks almost certain that he will. It was evident in the opening training session in late 2013 that Bomber Thompson and team-mates were really emphatic on giving Gleeson the ball and allowing him to run and carry with the ball. He missed the second half of the season last year and he needed a shoulder reconstruction but has made a full recovery. Could very well be a “diamond in the rough” type pick considering we picked up with a mid-50 pick in the 2012 draft. 36. LAUCHLAN DALGLEISH Lachie Dalgleish manages three games at the end of last season and looked to adapt well to the level of senior football, however we won’t be seeing Dalgleish early this season as he is recovering from a calf injury. He is back in full training, however like Dempsey, will need some match fitness. It is a shame, because if fit, he’d be the number one man to take over the role. I’d expect to see Dalgleish at some point during the year when he is fit and raring to go. Certainly has plenty of pace and a lot to offer to the senior team. 37. SEAN GREGORY Watched Sean a lot in the VFL last season and it seemed to me that he is a long way off from making a senior debut. Lean, raw and has a lot of development ahead of him. Played forward, played back at times in 2013 and wasn’t really sure what his position was. “Sticks” will have to show a lot of improvement in 2014 and I’m sure he will with a full pre-season under his belt. 38. NICK KOMMER Nick Kommer reminds me a lot of Jason Johnson for some reason. JJ was an absolute star footballer who, when he saw the ball, he just went for it, no matter what. Kommer is very much the same and always willing to throw his body on the line to win the hard ball. Kommer doesn’t have the greatest skills in the world and is not overly quick, but neither was JJ. Maybe it’s just me, but I do see some similarities in both of them. Kommer currently has a knee injury and it is unknown when he may return, but is likely to return through the VFL. 39. HEATH HOCKING In our leadership group for season 2014, Hocking will again play the role of our main tagger for the season ahead. Personally, I’m not sure it is the right role for him as he hasn’t been able to have a major effect on many opponents he has played on. Sure, he’s shut down the old couple of players; however otherwise, he has been beaten or broke even with his opponent. I’d personally play him as another attacking midfielder and contested ball winner. He played that role very well in 2011 when he came second in the best and fairest and wouldn’t mind him returning to that role. 40. BEN HOWLETT I’ve liked Ben since his very first game against Geelong in 2010. The way he attacks the football is something to certainly admire. He had an ordinary year by his standards in 2013, however in the pre-season, has looked to work on his endurance and I’m certainly loving the “caveman” look that he has going at the moment. He has managed to kick a couple of goals in the NAB Challenge and if he can do that in the season this year, then he will definitely add value to the team. 41. WILL HAMS Will only managed the two games in his first season at senior level, however those two games, he certainly showed us what he is capable of at the senior level once he puts a bit of muscle on. Will had a terrific year in the VFL and was one of the best, if not, the best player on the ground in our Elimination Final loss against Werribee. He showed a great amount of courage in the Round 11 win against the Blues, putting his body on the line and winning the hard ball. Great to see from a young kid and hope we can see him this season in the seniors, as I think he has terrific ability and massive potential. 43. KURT AYLETT Not sure what to make of Kurt coming to the football club. He only managed the one game at the GWS Giants and has already a knee reconstruction in his short career. However, he was drafted to the GWS Giants as a 17 year old and did test in the elite category for endurance and agility, so there is something there. Watching him at training is obviously a bit different, but he seems to be able to use the football well. Not sure if we will see him this season in the seniors. 44. FRASER THURLOW Been pretty impressed with Fraser Thurlow in the pre-season and the way he has handled himself in the NAB Challenge. He certainly looks like a likely type that could play at the top level. He’s not just a ruckman though, as he can play forward with his 199cm, 101kg frame. A ready-made build for AFL football, Thurlow possesses a great skill that not many have, and that’s contested marking. He averaged a whopping 8.9 marks a game last year in the NEAFL, from 15 games, which is quite staggering. 45. JOHNNY RAYNER An elite runner, 800m national champion of 2013, and it’s his first season back playing football since he missed out on the draft four years ago. He was named in the TAC Cup Team of the Year, so there’s obviously some talent there. I saw him play in the VFL practice match against Collingwood and he was a clear best on ground for us. Rayner covers the ground exceptionally well and when he plays, he will most certainly be used on a wing. Johnny will need time to put a bit of weight on, but other than that, he looks a likely type. 46. ORAZIO FANTASIA. I like the kid purely because of his name. The best name in the competition I would have thought. Anyway, the reason he is at the football club is because he is a supreme talent. He has some genuine speed and knows where the goals are. Watching his highlights, he loves a goal and doesn’t pass off very often, however has a very good conversion rate. The best thing Fantastia does is he is able to use the ball at full speed which isn’t an easy thing to do. If I had to liken him to anyone, I’d actually liken him to our own Jason Winderlich. 47. PATRICK AMBROSE Like many in team, I watched Patrick in the VFL last year and although he only played seven games for the season, due to incoming Essendon players playing and them having priority of playing over the VFL listed players, Ambrose managed to play the second half of the season and have a big contribution. Standing at 191cm, Ambrose runs supremely well and is a terrific athlete. Ambrose is the perfect type of player to replace Crameri, however may take time. SUMMARY: Well, as I said at the very beginning, the time is here. It’s Round 1 and we’re ready to go again with our first game against North Melbourne, a team that we do not like one bit and a rivalry that somewhat goes under the radar. These teams do not like each other one bit. They have respect for one another, but do not get along. What can we expect on Friday night? Who knows? The good thing is, we have played the Kangaroos eight times in Round 1 and won six of them with a winning average of 56 points. The other thing that goes in our favour is that Brad Scott has never won a Round 1 game as coach. Now that means diddly-squat heading into Friday night, however it’s a nice mental note to keep. I am so keen to see Joe Daniher play a full year. I think once we get going and he gets going, he can really stamp his authority and show us why he can be one of the best forwards in the competition. He has all the attributes to become that and hopefully we see signs of that this season. The support of the football club over the last 14-15 months has absolutely outstanding. Being at the club in a role with the VFL side, you could feel that 99% of the clubs supporters were right behind the club and did everything they could to get the boys up each and every week. And we know the coaches, players and staff all appreciate it and while this is continuing to drag out, we, as supporters, must keep this support up for as long as possible. With our tough month to begin with, I think the best result, realistically is to win two of our first four matches against North Melbourne, Hawthorn, Carlton and Fremantle. I, like many others, am confident that we can beat Carlton, however North Melbourne is 50/50 and the others, we are probably going in as underdogs. Can we make top four? I think we can, but don’t think we will. There are just teams in a better position than us at the moment and another year into our group of players between 50-150 games won’t hurt and 2015 is the year we should be aiming to finish in the top four. The aim this season should be winning a final. If we are to make that play for a top four position in 2015, we must keep our players and hopefully bring in one or two experienced midfielders from other clubs. Who they are? I don’t know. I do know that David Mundy is a free agent at the end of the year (unlikely he will leave). Where do I think we will finish in 2014? It all comes down to injuries and injuries to certain players that could derail our season. Every year for every club depends on injuries but if we can get the likes of Bellchambers, Winderlich, Kommer and Dempsey back into the team, we strengthen a hell of a lot and if we can maintain a healthy list, then top four isn’t out of the question. However, as spoken about previously, I just think there are teams that are ahead of us in that department. I have predicted us to finish 5th in 2014. Which players do I feel will take the next step in 2014? I think David Zaharakis can become an elite midfielder this season. He is quite damaging when he gets the ball in his hands and can kick goals as well. He has had a full pre-season which I don’t believe he has had for the last two years. He is also keen to prove a point to his team-mates who left him out of the leadership group this season. He is out of contract at the end of the year, however Zaharakis loves this football club and I cannot see him leaving the football club, no matter how big the deal on the table from another club may be. Which players need a big year? The obvious one is Leroy Jetta. He too, is also out of contract at the end of the season and will need a big year to earn a new one. As I said earlier, he is just a frustrating player to watch. He is so good in the VFL against the less experienced, yet when he comes into the AFL, it’s like he is completely different player. The other one I feel that needs a big year is Michael Hurley. I love the guy and think he is a terrific footballer…when he wants to be. Too often we have seen an inconsistent, injury plagued footballer. He is on the big bucks, on a five year contract, he needs to start showing why heading into his 3rd year of his contract. Now, the reason he may have been playing inconsistently was because he was being played out of position, but now that he is in his preferred position, the position he was drafted into, the position he played in his first game and dominated Port Adelaide legend Warren Tredrea, in defence where he should be. The coach “Bomber”. Welcome back to the coaching fraternity. He admits himself that he is nervous about getting back into the swing of things and becoming “the man” again, however, I have no doubt that he will adjust very quickly and put his wisdom into this young group. We must remember that he is a two time premiership winning coach, so he knows what he is doing. Finally, the team. We, as supporters, are 100% behind you, no matter who you are, if you’re wearing the Essendon jumper, with the red sash, we’re backing you to give your all. Last year, finals were taken away from us and all your hard work was taken away and now it is time, in a year where it won’t happen again, to take back what is ours. A spot in the finals. Make an impact. Let the rest of the competition hate us. Winning while everyone hates you makes it so much better. No matter who you are, what role you play, if you’re wearing that jumper, give your all, because we as supporters will be doing the exact same thing. We are Essendon.
