!!!Disclaimer!!! Subject Matter: Racism. Will be using racist slurs in status. DO NOT CALL ME RACIST IN COMMENTS, IF YOU ARE GOING TO READ THIS, FULLY READ IT. None of my friends, some of my friends, or all of my friends may know this fact. I was raised around serious racism in being raised around my maternal Grandfather. Where terms like Nigger, Coal-Burner, Wet Back, Porch Monkey, Coon, etc were everyday utterances. Now when I was impressionable and easily influenced, even though I had friends of mixed races, or of a different race, when I was around my grandfather my language usually followed the same racist slurs. But as I came to my pre-teen years and teen years, I entered that rebellious mindset where I didnt think like anybody else and rebelled against that racism. When I grew out of that rebellious mindset I could have easily gone back to that racist mindset like my skinhead, Nazi want to be, biological half-brother did. Now some of you may know, my fathers last name is Hess; yes I know my last name is Hess, but another story for another time. In 10th Grade we had to look into our family names, Hess goes back to a Visigoth tribe that along with other Visigoth tribes took on the Roman Empire. Making my paternal name over 3/4 of a millennium old. The name Hess also has dark history with Rudolf Hess who was one of men close to Hitler. Rudolf died in Spandau prision August 17th, 1987 two months and 9 days before I was born. Now I could easily have followed that racist road as well, becoming a skinhead, hating Kikes (Jews), Niggers (if you dont know the people that racist slur applies to you are either naïve or a moron), Wetback/Beaners (self explanatory) Chinks and so on. But as you know me, know I didnt follow that path, devolve back into that mindset. For one major reason beside having friends of all different races, and being attracted to girls of different races. The thing that stopped me from being a racist prick like members of my family: Rap/Hip-Hop music. Specifically, Eminem. When I first heard Eminem I didnt like Rap, I only listened to Rock. I listened to him, thought he was okay, then I started to like him, then I fell in love with his music, and to this day consider Eminem one of the greatest Rappers alive of any race. But because I liked him first that opened me up to the idea of Rap, from there I started listening to rappers like Dr. Dre, Tupac, Biggie, Jay Z, Nas, Lil Wayne (Dont judge), T.I. Kanye West, and now I listen to people that I found on my own that I didnt first hear on the radio: Tech N9ne, Cyhi The Prynce, Yelawolf, Pill, Corey Gunz, and more. So now that I have expanded my musical influence I can stay away from that racist and negative darkness in my everyday thinking. Yes I know the term nigger/nigga is used in a lot of rap music, dont care. I admit to saying it while going with the song (dont judge), if you have a problem with that, take it up with every rapper besides white rappers (because they would be killed before they got out of the booth). I used to use the term Nigger to describe every black person I saw, whether I knew them or not. I judged people by the group. To quote Sgt. Buster Kilrain from Gettysburg, The thing is, you cannot judge a race. Any man who judges by the group is a pea-wit. You take men one at a time. And I follow that advice to this day. To my different colored friends, you are my brothers and sisters. And I dont mean that in a corny cheesy way. Austin, Steven, Renzo, Roland, Laura, Nikki, Michelle, and everybody that I have known through the many different parts of my life. I feel more defensive of you guys than I am of my own brother. You will always be a family, I live in Ohio I know, but you can ask Tisha, Ive said it once Ive said it a 1,000 times, if any of my friends need a place to stay I cant say no. So know I love you. Thank you.
