To cut back on false alarms, and the amount of time and money they cost the city, the new plan is to fine alarm companies when police respond to a false alarm. In 2012 there were more than 3,000 false alarms. Recently, the city had stopped responding to automatic burglary alarms when a crime had not been verified. Under the new law, which still requires a second reading and adoption, alarm companies would be fined for the false alarms. The alarm industry has already threatened legal action against the city if alarm monitoring companies are fined.
