Do you say a foreign word used in English in its original - TopicsExpress

Do you say a foreign word used in English in its original pronunciation, or in an English way? Its actually hard for me to say bruschetta with a sh sound, because its as Italian as words come, and I learned to say the word originally with a k sound. But Im told that this comes across as snobby and I have to learn to say the anglicized version to not raise eyebrows when Im in English speaking countries. In mainland Europe, people are more likely to say words closer to their original pronunciation (Germans say Restaurant in a French way for instance), but respecting cultures is a two-way street and involves not just respecting the foreign language weve borrowed from, but also the convention used where you happen to be. While Im not quite as bad as this guy, it is the curse of a polyglot that you have to juggle not just foreign languages, but how to use foreign words in your mother tongue! What are your thoughts, and how do you use foreign words or react to people using them in their original pronunciation (when not taking to comical extremes like in this video). Enjoy! :)
