Do you sometimes get the feeling, that when western media is covering chinese social media, you could have told them the news a long time ago? Just like The NYT piece half a year ago or so about Wechat: As The new social media that everyone is using, and journalists struggled to find a worthy western comparison and argued it was kind of the same thing as facebook/twitter with the same features that your phone provides. Doesnt seem to make any sense if you havent used wechat. Anyway at that time all my chinese friends, myself and pretty much all my fellow students and and international students Ive met while travelling China, had been using Wechat as the number one way to contact foreign and chinese friends alike, for a long time.
