Does anyone know why the series The Newsroom on HBO had to end so - TopicsExpress

Does anyone know why the series The Newsroom on HBO had to end so soon? It was written in such a way that it resolved naturally and of its own momentum, so to speak, but I wanted so much more! Occasional leftist leanings aside, the show was incredible and the kind of complex, interpersonal drama that generates a dedicated fan base and years worth of staying power. The premise was also nearly unique in that it showcased real-world events and offered commentary about these events via their handling by a fictionalized newsroom team. The end product was truly fascinating. If the show had a weakness, I would say that the often clever writing would sometimes err on the side of being too cute, either leaving the viewers head spinning at the convoluted dialogue or with feelings of being patronized as the actors reflexive commentary and over self-analysis helped the viewer along to a place of understanding. That flaw notwithstanding, The Newsroom was overall extraordinarily well-written and entertaining. Of course, I could just as easily Google or Wiki my way to the answer about whether or not the show was originally intended to be 2.5 seasons or actually canceled, but I prefer to crowdsource it. Im curious how many other fans of the show are out there. Tangentially, I have heard good things about Aaron Sorkin in general and am wondering if I should give The West Wing its day in court. (Spoiler Alert, discussing the second to last episode) Lastly, if anyone out there was a fan of the show and watched in its entirety, were you also struck by the revelation in the penultimate episode that McAvoys cellmate was actually an imaginary depiction of his father? It blew me away at first and then, as I thought back to the various glaring hints given, I felt like an obtuse, unobservant idiot...
