Domestic and cargo flights are set to resume operation Wednesday evening after dawn fire gutted down the international arrival terminal of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) leading to the airports indefinite closure. According to State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu, the the cause of the fire is being investigated and said this was not time foe speculation. In a statement on behalf of the President, Esipisu said the flights will operate from the cargo terminal "We expect cargo and domestic services to resume from this airport this(Wednesday) afternoon. They will operate from the Cargo terminal," said Esipisiu. He also said the time frame for the resumption of international flights will be relayed later. He said that measures are being put in place to make sure normal operations of the airport resume “Contingency measures have been put in place to stabilize the situation and to return the airport into normal operations.” He reassured the entire aviation industry and the investors that the government was doing everything they can to resume normal operations. "President Kenyatta wishes to reassure the entire aviation industry, investors, local and international travelers that everything is being done to resume normal operations," he said. He said the damage is being assessed and regretted the disruption caused to tourists and passengers affected by the fire but appreciated they were being rerouted. "We are concerned that the incident interrupted traveler’s schedules and appreciate that they are being routed to their destinations as soon as is possible." "We want to guarantee the safety and security of all passengers, help lines have been set up where those who wish to get further information," he said.
