Don’t Thank Me for My Service In reply to the recent outpouring of thanks for those of us who were in the military: I really wish people in this world knew what was going on. I understand that we have all been given this grand story our whole lives about honor and how they provide us with freedoms but this story is just false. I feel compelled to say something when I see this because it is this attitude that caused people like me to be one of them. My contribution to the world was to provide maintenance to refueling tankers that provided fuel for the planes paroling the no fly zones over Iraq. Part of this mission was also to enforce the embargo of Iraq. The embargo was literally a mission to starve out the country. While this happened 500,000 children died. While this happened, people in the Middle East got angry at us and flew planes into buildings. After which we were told that they hate us for our freedoms--for example women can drive cars here. No, the military does not make us safe, it does not make us free (we are not free) and there is no honor is being one of us who were in the military. The militarys primary use is to be a mass murder machine that spreads the American Empire around the world. I realize that this is not something that you are used to hearing; that this may come as a shock to you that someone would say this; that you have heard your entire life the exact opposite of what I am saying here; but the reality is, you are only hearing the story the empire wants you to hear. You are hearing the story that gets you to make posts like the one you have made here. I could provide you with all kinds of evidence about the motives of military force; pictures of dead children; and sick and disgusting images of deformed babies born after a recent uranium enriched battle but I dont need to. This is the information age and despite the fact that you will never hear this story on CNN, MSNBC, or in your imperial public school text books; this information is out there and easy to get to. Now that you have been tipped off, remaining ignorant or becoming informed is your choice. Should you be happy and comfortable believing in and perpetuating lies of the state or should you be disturbed by the truth and help to change it--if by nothing else, not honoring the profession of mass murder? Whatever your choice, your decision alone could have a powerful impact on someone or a few peoples lives. In mass, it would change the world for better or worse. Whatever you do, dont thank me for my service.
