Duty Passengers most commonly asked question(s): 1. Why do we have to be there so early? ---We open the counter at 0130 and process duty passengers up to 0430(Until 9 March then it is 0230 - 0530). You do not have to be there at opening time, however, it is first come first serve on seat options. Keep in mind, this aircraft is not full of people going on vacations that have a small weekend bag. Most everyone is moving and taking their lives with them. It takes a little longer to process that many people with full baggage allowance. 2. Where do I go if I get to the airport the day before the flight? ---SeaTac has a small USO lounge(open 24/7) and baggage storage area. All people working in the USO are there to support you. Most of them are retired military and their spouses. Some are just there because they love the military and what we do for our country. ---There are many hotels within the wiggle of a lambs tail from the airport. Most of them have 24 hour shuttles. If you are going to stay in a hotel, due your research first to ensure they have a shuttle and that it will run at the time you need to get to the airport. Plan your trip accordingly so you dont miss the processing cut-off time. 3. Why is there a cut-off time for processing duty passengers? ---as with most military processes, there is an end game. Our end game is getting the aircraft departed on time so that it makes it to its destinations on time. Japan has quiet hours and we must ensure that our aircraft gets there before they start. Our processing start/end times are based on SOEs (Schedule of Events) that must be met in order to make an on-time departure. The cut-off time is part of those SOEs. 4. Please read your orders and all your travel documents so that you know the restrictions and reporting times. The cost of not reading all of your info can be $118 per extra bag(you are allowed 2 checked and 2 carry-on) or you having to explain to your command why you missed your movement(not good). v/r Tim Sanders
