EGG CUP OF THE DAY FOR 10/16/14 - I just realized that since I am now on Mountain Time, my posting will seem to be one hour later than usual to many folks. I know my time varies tremendously anyway, and before I get too squirrely, here is todays subject: The SQUIRREL! I found my first squirrel while visiting a former student in Up-state New York, very close to the Massachusetts border. It was a very snowy visit, but so beautiful. My host actually trusted me with his car one day, and I went off antiquing, slip-sliding away. My first visit was to a shop in Great Barrington, MA, where I found the first squirrel cup, a vintage one that I had been lusting after for some time. Its the typical yellow glazed pottery item, possibly by Keele Street Pottery. I also could have purchased my first whistler in that shop, but at that point in my collecting, I found the price of $75.00 a bit high. Little did I know that it was actually a pretty good price, and I should have sprung for it. The next two examples are relatively early also, the first marked ENGLAND, and the second.....JAPAN. Of the next two, one is from the Franklin Mint Friendly Forest set, but Im not exactly sure which one.....unless there were two in that series (?????). The bucket version is again from the Arts and Crafts show I ran across at the Roman Baths in Bath, England......and, of course, the final example is from Quail Pottery, also in England. As a side note, I did return my former students car without a scratch! That weekend of snow was so serious, that our trip by car up from NYC, which should have taken a couple of hours, took well over four hours.......but, again, it was sooooo beautiful, and since I had been living in the snow-deprived South for several years, this YANKEE particularly enjoyed the experience......even if our driver didnt!
