[EN-FR] Happy 96th Birthday, Su Beng Su Beng (史明; Si Tiâu-hui) is often called the Che Guevara of Taiwan. On November 9, 1918, Su Beng was born into a wealthy landowners family in Taipei. He attended Waseda University, one of the best universities in Japan, and graduated with a degree in political science and economics in 1942. He became an intellectual elite during the Japanese ruling period. Su Beng traveled to China and worked undercover for the Chinese Communist Party. However, during the time he fought against the Japanese, his dream of Sinocentrism was completely shattered. Su Beng realized that Taiwan had to create its own future. He started to promote Taiwan Independence. When Chiang Kai-shek retreated to Taiwan, Su Beng established the Taiwan Independence Armed Corps which plotted assassination of the generalissimo. But after his plan was discovered, he was forced into exile to Japan where he opened a noodle shop. Su Beng put all his earnings into Taiwan Independence movements. During the time in exile, he wrote the book called Taiwan’s 400 Year History that was immediately banned in Taiwan. His beliefs influenced a whole generation of intellectuals in the island. In 1993, he returned to Taiwan, becoming the last man on the blacklist who came home. He has been active since then. During the Anti-cross Strait Service Trade Agreement movements this spring, he gave numerous speeches at the protests. He promised to fight for Taiwan independence until the last moment of his life. As long as Taiwan is not independent, he will never retire. Taiwan’s 400 Year History, mandarin version, has been reprinted since. The latest update came this last september 2014 (bit.ly/10LAqDg). Il intégrera l’élite intellectuelle durant l’occupation japonaise à Taïwan. Su Beng voyagera plus tard en Chine et travaillera en secret pour le parti communiste chinois. Cependant, durant son combat contre les Japonais, son rêve sinocentriste volera en éclats. Son éveil identitaire se réalisera : Taïwan devait créer son propre avenir. C’est ainsi qu’il commencera à promouvoir l’indépendance de Taiwan. Lorsque Chiang Kai-shek se réfugia à Taïwan, Su Beng créa le Corps armé de l’indépendance de Taïwan, qui conspira à l’assassinat du général. Mais lorsque leur plan fut découvert, Su Beng dû s’exiler au Japon où il ouvrira une restaurant de nouilles. Su Beng mettra tous ses biens dans le financement des mouvements indépendantes de Taïwan. Durant son exile, il écriva le livre intitulé « Les 400 ans d’histoire de Taïwan » qui fut immédiatement indexé à Taïwan. Ses pensées ont influencé toute une génération d’intellectuelles sur l’île. En 1993, il retourna à Taïwan, devenant ainsi la dernière personne figurant sur la liste noire à revenir à la patrie Depuis lors, il reste actif sur la scène politique, une de ses dernières grandes actions fut sa participation active durant les Mouvement des Tournesols. Su Beng a promis de se battre pour l’indépendance de Taïwan jusqu’à son dernier souffle. Il ne se retirera pas de la scène tant que Taïwan ne sera pas indépendante. La version mandarine du livre « Les 400 ans d’histoire de Taïwan » a été réimprimée plusieurs fois depuis lors. La dernière mise à jour est arrivée en septembre dernier.
