Each Tuesday around this time, the lady who lives kitty-corner from me, whom I refer to almost exclusively and perhaps unfairly as Sarah Palin because of the sign-that-will-not-be-named that festooned her front yard during the 2008 election season, appears to be holding what I - again, perhaps unfairly - assume is some kind of bible study/pyramid scheme meeting. Men with conservative haircuts park up and down the street and shamble toward her house with large books and sloppy binders, making sheepish jokes about buying American except for cars but heywhatreyougonnadoObamahuh? to one another as they gather. Meanwhile, I sit here and consider which subversive books I should anonymously leave for her adolescent son on their front porch.
