Earlier this year, the American Humane Association sent a team of volunteers and veterinary staff to Tennessee to help rescue and rehabilitate six horses in critical condition – so malnourished that they were described as “living, breathing skeletons.” One horse in particular, Scooter, was so weak that he couldn’t even lift his head up.
