Ears To Hear? He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Matthew - TopicsExpress

Ears To Hear? He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Matthew 11:15 Good hearing is a gift of God, a gift we many times take for granted! It is a terrible thing when we cannot hear what other people are saying to us. Sin is the cause of all our weaknesses; this also makes us deaf to the things of God. Have you ever thought about this? Our hearing may be very good as far as being able to understand what people are saying to us, but when God speaks to us through His word we are deaf and give no heed to what He is saying, because our spiritual ears are deaf, unable to hear what He is saying to us. For God says in Acts 28:26-27, “Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.” What does that mean? To understand this we must go back to Paradise! God created us in His image with knowledge, righteousness, and holiness, ‘able’ to hear and obey our Creator (the triune God) perfectly! But that was not enough for us. We would be as God, knowing good and evil, and so our heart as the text said waxed gross. Death was now in the pot, (see 2 Kings 4:40) and everything about us became poison including our hearing. This is a very personal death, Psalm 53:3, “Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” Though our parents, Adam and Eve, were the ones who committed this great evil and so became spiritually dead, every one born from them will also be born as they had become, dead in sins and trespasses, for Adam was the head of the whole human race, and we inherited original sin. This is a great dilemma and becomes even greater because we do not even realize it! The Bible tells us, but we have no ears to hear! How can we get or find these ears that hear? When we are deaf, we must go to the doctor to see if there is a remedy for our illness. However, before we would ever think about going, we must realize we have a problem. To realize our need there must come a time when this becomes a burden that is impossible to bear, and a remedy must be found. God the Holy Spirit comes with His word, opening the stopped up ears, making them willing seekers and hearers of His word. This is the balm that cures all diseases of the heart! The Lord Jesus says to anxious inquirers, “The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them” (Matthew 11:5). To see that this Physician (Jesus Christ) has the ability to heal us is wonderful news, and gives hope that there is relief available. As good as this news is, it does not change the situation for our problem. We are still spiritually dead! Ephesians 2:1, “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sin.” We need to be made spiritually alive, and for this we may ask! No must ask! How can we approach this Physician and be cured! He seems so unattainable, so holy, and so pure surely He will not hear such a poor wretch as I am? These words from Psalm 72:4-5 ring in our ears, “For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper. He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.” This is a marvelous thing. These ears that heard only the things of time and sense now are tuned only to Gods’ word. God’s word speaks to them, “I am thy salvation.” Not only has hearing been restored, but everything that is needed for time and eternity is found in this Physician. How is your hearing? He that says, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear” (Matthew 11:15), will also give hearing ears to those that come unto Him for them. Read Luke 11:8-10.
