Ed J. Wellenkamp (July 29, 1922 - October 31, 2014) Ed J. Wellenkamp, age 92, of Krakow passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 at New Haven Care Center. He was born on July 29, 1922 to the late Oscar and the late Florence (nee Koehring) Wellenkamp, and grew up on the family farm in Krakow as one of seven children. He attained the rank of Corporal in the US Army and served as a Quad gunner on a Half-Track during WWII. He was part of the D-Day invasion and landed on Normandy, was in the Battle for Aachen, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and went through the Black Forest in Germany. After returning home, he was united in marriage to Leona M. Schaefer at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Dutzow on October 25, 1947. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking throughout his life. He loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 10 am at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Krakow. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 3 until 7 pm at Miller Funeral Home. Memorial donations are appreciated to the New Haven Care Center. He is survived by his wife, Leona M. Wellenkamp of Krakow; four children, Beverly Miller of Washington, Wanda and husband Norm Randolph of Fenton, Jerry Wellenkamp and friend Debbie Lawrence of Idaho, and Jim and wife Linda Wellenkamp of Krakow; one sister, Inez Rohrer of Washington; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Jenerra, Eddie, Michelle, Shari, and Nicole; eight great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, George, Henry, Wilbert, Adele Lottmann, and Laura Mae Wellenkamp.
