Education: FG urged to assist private institutions with funds Federal government has been urged to create a special intervention fund to assist private owners of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in view of the difficult and limited access they have to credit facilities from commercial banks. Proprietress of Hasab Heritage School, Mrs Hassanat Abubakar, who made the call at the 4th graduation and prize –giving day ceremony of the school in Abuja, said the proposed education intervention fund should be tailored after the Textile Resuscitation Fund and Nollywood Entertainment Industry Fund. She said the Bank of Industry can be mandated to provide the fund from which private school owners can obtain soft loans to develop infrastructure and learning facilities in their school. The private school owners, who constitute about 70 percent of primary and secondary schools nationwide, she maintained, should be encouraged and supported by the government because of the vital role they have played in filling the void in school enrolment and improving educational standards in the country. Mrs Abubakar said the grandaunts of the school are future leaders and ambassadors of the school, who must continue to strive for academic excellence and moral rectitude. The proprietress commended parents and guardians of the pupils for discharging their responsibilities as good agents of socialisation and character builders.
