Elizabeth asks: Was wondering if someone might be able to help me put into words why my 9y/o dyslexic son can memorize lines to his favorite shows, favorite songs and memorize every dinosaur that once lived but cant keep sight words straight and is a terrible speller and reader. Since we found out about his dyslexia last year, I have quickly read as much as I can about dyslexia but I am no expert and having a hard time trying to clearly explain to others the difference in memorization. I found a great private ALT to work with him (Take Flight) but his school teachers and the administrators do not really understand the truths of dyslexia..especially when that is his only learning difference and doesnt have ADD, Autism or any special needs. With my head swimming with so much info and not being the best communicator, I was hoping someone might be able to help me with an explanation. Thanks in advance for any help you might provide!
