Establishing concentration during Salah: Allah Almighty states in Surah Ankaboot“Indeed the prayer stops from indecency and evil”. Many of us often question how we pray all our salah, but still our salah does not stop us from committing sins, it does not make us hate sinning. There is no doubt that salah has the power to stop us from committing all acts of indecency, giving us both success in the world and in the hereafter. But in order for our salah to protect us, we need to be praying it properly. Salah in itself is a combination of 2 things: 1) Physical Form – The physical form consists of recitation using correct tajweed, aswell as performing each action correctly. 2) Spiritual Form– To maintain concentration throughout Salah. We need to have both these forms on point for us to benefit. Take for example a bodyguard, Regardless of how strong his outer body is, however many muscles he may have, if he has no soul how will he protect us? Likewise the bodyguard with a soul, but with no physical strength will not benefit us either. The ulema state that one who fails to gain concentration in salah, should first learn to gain concentration in their wudhu. This will then make way for the khushu that is needed within the salah. 5 points to help with concentration- Think that this is the last prayer of your life- Some Sufiya mention that envisaging the Ka’abah helps with concentration- Envisage the name of Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) written on your heart.- Imagine that Angels are surrounding you from your feet to the heavens.- Learn the translation of the salah who doesnt understand. Whoever reads Surah al- Asr x10 before going to sleep with the intention of waking up for Salah, will not feel any laziness in having to wake up and performing the Salah insha’Allah.
