Evening Meditation: To This You Were Called Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. (1 Peter 3:8-9 NIV) I find this to be a very interesting verse as Peter writes; to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. To this you were called -- this is who we are -- a people of blessing. In Old Testament Hebrew the word for blessing is barak and in the New Testament Greek the word is eulogia. In their passive forms these words mean to speak the intention of God or the favor of God on someone. Notice that Peter says to this you were called. We are called to speak Gods intention over people -- even those who speak evil of us or insult us. We are called to a lifestyle of blessing that causes changes in the hearts of those we bless as well as ourselves. True blessing spoken over someone or some situation is simply describing how God sees them or the situation. As we bless someone, we are simply making a prophetic declaration: May Gods intention in your life or in this situation be fully realized. And we know His intentions for everyone for He spoke through the prophet Jeremiah: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV). The idea of blessing has nothing to do with whether the recipient is walking it out at that moment. We are simply declaring Gods intentions and releasing His ability to change things from what they are into His desired plan for that person. I am one who believes that the blessing works to accomplish Gods intention even when the recipient is slow in receiving. But it works much quicker when the recipient receives the blessing as a prophetic declaration of Gods intention in their lives. With that background, may I speak over you, readers, a blessing and may you receive it as a prophetic declaration of Gods intention in your life: In the Name of Jesus Christ, I bless you with the promises of God that are yes and amen. May you prosper in every area of your life knowing the LORD will give you many opportunities to do good, and He will produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Gods grace be upon your home, that it may be a sanctuary of rest and renewal, a haven of peace where sounds of joy and laughter grace its walls, where love and unconditional acceptance of one another is consistent. God’s call is upon you as an individual and as a family. May you unite in prayer, the Word and in each other as you watch His plan take place. Remember faith is the evidence of things not seen. I bless you to focus on the higher reality of Gods promises rather than the negative facts in your life. Faith comes by hearing and you set the course of your life with your words; so therefore choose to speak the powerful promises of God to build your faith. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. With great hope and much love, PF
