Every Frame a Painting gets down and dirty with one of Animes - TopicsExpress

Every Frame a Painting gets down and dirty with one of Animes brightest and greatest filmmakers ever- Satoshi Kon. Satoshi Kon passed away at the age of 46, the year Christopher Nolans Inception and Darren Aronofskys Black Swan both broke box office records and earned rave fan and critic reviews alike. Both films are largely cribbed in large quantities from his films Perfect Blue and Paprika, with Darren Aronofskys production house Protozoa Pictures having secured the US remake rights to Kons Perfect Blue to avoid lawsuits while he was making Requiem for a Dream, which lifts an entire segment from Perfect Blue shot for shot (he would later RE-CRIB this same scene almost shot for shot in Black Swan as well, although that whole movie is practically a live action adaptation) Im totally a fan of this method of filmmaking, some of the best filmmakers of the last 20 years have come out of this Meta riffing and appropriation style (QT, Robert Rodriguez, and Edgar Wright come to mind), but its always nice to know where the references are coming from and getting these films seen as well ;)
