Exactly what does it mean, God Loves you? Or, what does it mean - TopicsExpress

Exactly what does it mean, God Loves you? Or, what does it mean that you love God? Here is the standard that we must measure love by. 1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. The love defined here is the picture of passion. It reveals that Love originated in God and was revealed to man in His Son, Jesus Christ. The revelation of Jesus was that He was the PROPITIATION for our sins. In other words, He was the atonement for our sins. One should probably read the book of Hebrews and Romans to get a good feel for this Old Testament picture. Then, go back and look at the Day of Atonement and the duties of the High Priest. His love was the direct, intentional, properly timed act in response to our sins. In that sense, all of the sins of the world are plural and thousands of years apart. But, this love of His, shown on the cross, was singular and yet broad enough to cover the sins of the entire world, long enough to outlast the effects of sin in man, deep enough to reach into the place of the dead where Christ went at His death and high enough to purify the better things of heaven itself. After all of this, God, through our faith in Christ makes us capable to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge. He does this so that we might not be deficient in anything pertaining to life and Godliness but that we might be filled with all the fulness of God. Ephesians 3:17-19 Therefore, if anyone says that they love God and yet they do not reflect the passion of His Son back towards Him, either they do not know the love of God or they are short-changing Him and withholding the love that is due to Him. If you say that you love God, show it with PASSION!
