Expert advice from Kate Beauchamp - Dance Teacher You may not venture on to the dance floor very often but with Christmas comes the opportunity to ‘throw some shapes’. Does that instil you with fear? Here are a few tips. · Before you even get up to dance, listen to the music and start to tap your toe to the beat, then bring in a head tilt until most of your body has found the ‘groove’. · You will probably now ‘Dad Dance’ which is a step tap, step tap. No problem but add some direction change or throw in 2 side steps or a grapevine (sorry technical term) with subtle finger clicks or small shoulder shrugs. · Most importantly RELAX, listen to the music and let it will suck you in. As it changes from verse to chorus, it will influence you in your moves as you chill out. Engage with the other dancers as you laugh and lark about. If you haven’t got into the song or can feel a frown appearing on your face, take a seat and wait for the next song. Dancing is your interpretation of the music, it should make you smile and feel lifted. This can then be seen as you wiggle and giggle the night away. If you would like more structure or your confidence building, seek professional help. A dance teacher has so many tricks up their sleeves for you. See you on a dance floor very soon.
