Exploring the capabilities of Nikon DSLRs for astronomy-related photography - in this case, planetary. Last night, I tested a new image acquisition program for astrophotographers called BackyardNIKON, which is in beta testing development right now - has yet to be fully released. One of its features is the ability to convert the frames from the LiveView screen to a usable AVI format. In this case, 2100 frames at an equivalent ISO of 320. Those 2100 frames were stacked and combined to create a final image that is then further processed via the programs Registax6 and Photoshop. The lens was my Meade LX200 f/6.3 10-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain with a focal length of 1600mm - effectively tripled with a 12.4mm 1950s-vintage Ramsden eyepiece as the final element in the optical train. I hope you enjoy.
