FIRST POLE FOR ESPARGARO AT THE IVECO DAILY TT ASSEN Saturday, 29, June 2014 Despite sitting on pole it was a difficult start to the TT for Espargaro, as it was for all the MotoGP riders, as rain saw the start delayed. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) got off to a flying start with the eldest Espargaro brother pushing to follow. The Honda rider was eventually to pull a gap on Espargaro. In turn Espargaro was able to maintain his advantage over Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) to equal his best ever premier class result. “In the wet I was cautious so I lost the contact with Dovizioso, but with the dry set up I pushed hard to fight for the podium. We gained important points for the championship and now we are sixth. We leave Assen happy with the results and we will return stronger at Sachsenring,” he commented. On his battle with Pedrosa he added, “It was a great race and the battle with Dani Pedrosa on a factory Honda was hard but it was good fun. We had a very good battle with Dani: he was overtaking me on the straight and I passed him in the corners.
