FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Letter from the Teacher Read 2 Chronicles 21:1 through 23:21 The day-care center had specific protocols for picking up children. Parents went to the front desk, signed out their children, and picked up daily work packets. Susan’s mother knew the routine well. Before she left, however, the receptionist handed her a letter from Susan’s teacher. The mother opened it immediately. Apparently, Susan had been biting classmates, calling them names, and not following the classroom rules. Jehoram received a letter from Elijah the prophet, which said: “This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: ‘You have not followed the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa king of Judah’” (2 Chronicles 21:12). Jehoram received a letter that reminded him how he had brushed aside the good ways of his predecessors and allowed wickedness to lead Judah away from God. Jesus has letters for His students too. They are found in the Bible. We should pay close attention to their precepts and helpful advice—much better than getting a correction notice after the fact. Challenge for Today: Read the Bible faithfully. It is the best source for spiritual instruction or discipline.
