FOOD FOR THOUGHT (5) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tribals of pakistan -is not culture and temperament of tribals of pakistan in certain respects drastically different from that of other pakistanis ? -is it not partially because Britishers ruled tribals through a special system (political agents , paid tribal chiefs , unauditable grants for chiefs , special law called F. C. R ?) - did not this difference keep tribals tied up to their outdated, traditional way of life ( chiefs & Mullas) & hinder their progress towards modern way of life (decocracy etc ? ) -did not tribals to begin with , remain loyal and peaceful when quaid-e-azam withdrew pak forces from tribal areas and stopped pensions of their chiefs? -did not they play their positive role against enemy sponsored move for creation of pakhtunistan ? -did not they play positive role in indo-pak wars and liberation of occupied Kashmir? did not pak govt. fail to tangibly and rapidly change special system and bring tribals in line with other pakistanis educationally economically socially and religiously ? -did not this failure , coupled with religious outlook of tribals, generate talibanization during russo-afghan war ? -can mind- set of taliban (tribal and non-tribal ) be changed without changing aproach of enlightened Pakistanis towards them before and after restoration of peace ?
