FOOD, WEALTH, AND MINDFUL EATING. I just guided 150 people at the Cure to Cancer conference through a mindful eating experience, bringing more consciousness to one of the most essential elements for our heallth. Wealth, by entomological definition, is a combination of health and well being! Money is a symbol of wealth that allows us to enrich our lives. In ancient China, being overweight was a sign of prestige, but today - due to so many empty calories that entice our greedy brain, we all must struggle with weight issues. The most kind and compassionate thing we can do is to set very SMALL weight loss goals. Mindful eating is one of the most essential new tools that has been developed at various universities around the country. My favorite book, so far, is Mindful Eating by Jan Chozen Bays. It has a great cd to guide you through experiencing food in a new way. You basically meditate as you eat. You rediscover food. You savor it more. You eat less and enjoy it more. And you learn how to accept your journey with grace (dont try to lose more than a pound per week...be gentle on your greedy fat cells!) .
