FRIENDS: I have made the switch! Hooray. It took a few weeks for facebook to approve my name change. My LIKE page has gone from Kenia Nunez to The Savvy Widow. I changed the name because I realized I was running away from the word widow and really closing off to an audience that may need to hear my voice. Widow seemed like a naughty word to me because it labeled me. I recently discovered that WIDOW is just not who I am, its just what has happened to me, but it does not define me by any means. However, I choose to embrace the word because through widowhood is where I have learned the greatest lessons of my life. I am so grateful to you all for supporting me in my journey. I have so much work ahead of me, but getting my like page in order was a big deal. See below for a link to my page (please like it and share if you see fit) - and see my description below so that you can get an idea of what the content will be like on that page. Again, many, many, many thanks! I pray that God uses me in the way he sees fit to teach women that self-care is truly a form of self preservation. To the world, I appeared to have it all: a loving husband, three beautiful children, a gorgeous house, a secure and fulfilling job and an unapologetic zest for life. But there was a hidden reality beneath that happy veneer. After years of running on empty, I finally crashed and spiraled into a depression that would rattle my grasp on life and nearly destroy my marriage. The worst, however, was yet to come: In 2011 cancer struck, afflicting my very strong and athletic husband, John. Only then, during this excruciating twist, did I realize life’s true purpose--to embrace each moment with awareness, appreciation and, whenever possible, complete joy. I found the strength in doing so by surrendering that which I could not control. On May 7th, 2013 my husband took his last breath, and on that very day, I made the choice to transform my pain into an extraordinary blessing. I would live with purpose and passion in his honor. By way of his death, he gave me life. Today I am a wellness coach who inspires women to transform their lives from the inside out. I teach women self-care, so they can truly begin to honor and celebrate their self worth no matter what they are experiencing in their lives. I am on a mission to spread awareness that self-care is not a luxury, self-care is all about self-preservation! This is where The Savvy Widow name was born. By definition the word savvy means knowledgeable, well informed and one with practical solutions – I say AMEN to that! That is super cool – however, S.A.V.V.Y. is simply my acronym for what I used to survive my husband’s illness. As he got weaker, I got stronger through self-care, and this allowed me to have clarity - be a more compassionate caregiver through his illness. Ok, are you ready for what S.A.V.V.Y. stands for? Ok, here goes: S- Sleep A-Alkaline V- Vitamins V- Validate Others Y- YOU time On The Savvy Widow page we will explore self-care on a deeper level and really dig deep into my S.A.V.V.Y. method. This page will be a very interactive page so not only will you be able to take away nuggets that can change your life, but you will be able to contribute through your own experiences. I truly hope you join us for the ride and share this page with anyone who you feel can benefit from a little self-care love. Thank you for joining my S.A.V.V.Y. Revolution!
