FROM THE NEWSROOM: HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Election officials want to better regulate the millions of dollars in outside money that have been pouring into Connecticuts elections. The State Elections Enforcement Commission has submitted proposed legislation that attempts to increase the amount of information released publicly about so-called independent expenditures. SEEC also wants to improve its ability to enforce the law. The proposal is one of numerous election reform bills submitted for legislators to consider this session. Besides SEECs suggested bills, lawmakers have filed bills that attempt to scale back campaign grants from the states public financing program or eliminate them entirely for unopposed candidates. House Minority Leader Themis Klarides (THEHM-his KLEHR-ih-dehs) said House Republicans also want to prevent state contractor contributions from being spent on state elections. The issue was raised during last years gubernatorial election.
