Family Comes Home: I Tell God Thank You Steven Dial, Mult-Media Journalist November 14, 2013 West Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Imagine not seeing your family for nearly seven years because theyre halfway around the world. That has been a reality for one Midlands man who tried to save money so that his family could move from Liberia to live with him in America. Time is something that cant be stopped, sometimes it flies by, but other times, it seems like an eternity. Seven year, said David Beer as he patiently waited for his family to arrive. In 2006 in an effort to provide for his family, Beer took a job here in America. For the past seven years hes worked for the Lexington Medical Center, leaving behind his wife and four children. Ever since he left hes only been able to look at pictures and talk to them on the phone. A picture is just an image but in person is the best thing to do. For years he saved up money so that one day he could pay for his family to come live with him. When the Lexington Medical Center Foundation heard; they knew they needed to help. Within a two month period we were able to get with the State Department, pay some legal fees and get the flights done because we wanted the family to be here before thanksgiving, said Tim James with the Lexington Medical Center. The moment was finally here, Beer was about to see his 17 year old son and wife for the first time in nearly a decade. For his son Thomas, he says its a blessing that they were able to reunite. We are one family, its good a lot, I pray for long life and prosperity, said Thomas. It took a long time, through all the years plus now. At least I am here with my Father and now everything will be ok, by the grace of God, I tell God thank you. For David he was nearly speechless, but thankful for his Lexington Medical Family for making it possible for him to see his family once again. I dont know what to say but I am so grateful to God and to my coworker, Erick, he did a lot for me, I will never forget it, he did good, he is a good guy, said David. If the flight and legal fees werent enough, the Lexington Medical Foundation gave the Beers one more gift. The hospital also got together and got some gift cards so tomorrow you guys can go shopping. Enjoy your first day in America, said James. The rest of the family will be moving here permanently in January.
