Flora - Green - and Warfield....these are my family members.....so-called slaves hit Virginia in the 1600s.... This f a i t h f u l old black man, born i n s l a v e r y of slave parents, Green and F l o r a , was named W a r f i e l d Stemmons and w i l l be remembered by many of the older c i t i z e n s of Carthage. His father, Green Stemmons, was the blacksmith on the p l a n t a t i o n and had been reared by Dr. Stemmons parents, Jacob and Nancy (Stovall) Stemmons, of Logan county, Kentucky. Greens mother, Aunt Lucy Stemmons, who was brought from V i r g i n i a to Kentucky when Jacob and f a m i l y emigrated to Kentucky i n 1810 [1804] , v o l u n t a r i l y came to M i s s o u r i with the Stemmons caravan i n 1853. She had been freed many years
