Food for thought. Why is it in situations concerning love, or i suppose in a lot of cases the misrepresentation of love, or the confusion between the difference of love and lust, people always answer: follow youre heart...(And really this goes for any occasion where one is uncertain of the consequences a of choice.) Are people that unaware of how fickle, and downright reckless the heart is on its own? And that 90% of the time if we do follow our hearts, with out logic or reason, its leaves us brokenhearted and disappointed? I mean, starting from a very young age we grow up watching movies, or reading books on how the protagonists so whimsically follow their hearts written in unrealistic circumstances, followed by unrealistic conclusions of happily every after. Wouldnt that be a lovely notion? It makes my heart melt. However, i myself have been in scenarios where i would so carelessly follow my heart, in rather high hopes, almost to the point where i was convinced that everything would end up happy; that things would just eventually sort its self out. Boy, was i ever mislead. All following my heart had done was brought myself, and the people my actions affected(because the consequences of our actions and how they affect others should be something to always consider) was: anger, resentment, malice, hate, loss of friendship, depression resulting in attempted suicide. Because, in the real world people and situations are far darker and more sinister, than depicted in stories, especially stories/movies/T.V. of todays era where, Lord forbid, should represent any realism; and no you dont always get what you want. Logically, if we teach our children to reason with lifes situations and to cope with the inevitable heart break, and disappointment they will endure, better preparing them for the reality of the world, and generally making stronger people, would that not be a far better alternative? Rather than seeing them mislead, senseless, impudent and in the end self destructive, we see our children become more pragmatic, realistic, secure, and more happy? I think its way past due that we dash the whole philosophy of follow your heart to the way side. It consistently shows its a perplexing way of thinking and a defective way to live ones life.
