For my friend, Greg McDonnell---I finally found one of my own - TopicsExpress

For my friend, Greg McDonnell---I finally found one of my own photos of L&N Alco FA2 number 315, and turns out it figured into a good stretch of train watching in the summer of 1964. This is Extra 315 North passing the joint C&O-L&N passenger station at Winchester, KY on July 15,1964. I had just alighted from C&Os eastbound Louisville section of the George Washington. The 315 and her train were patiently waiting just south of the diamond (C&O controlled it---with the operator in the depot)--and three GE U25Bs were on the north side--Extra 1613 South. The three Alcos passed the U-Boats just north of the station, and I hustled back to catch the GEs as they passed the umbrella shed (notice station name is in C&Os style, even though this is the L&N side of the station). Finally, as soon as the cab of the southbound cleared, Extra 845 North came slowly grinding around the curve, on the block of Extra 315 North. I picked a good time to arrive at Winchester that day. :)
